Sea Strait Studios' ɬaʔəmen Project

tla'min First Nation Hosts the Salish Nations' 2012 Pulling Together Event

The Project

Sea Strait Studios has initiated development of a project to illuminate the historic cultural knowledge of tla’amin Nation. The Studio’s investigation will lead to the creation of a chronicle of the tla'amin people. The spin-off will take the form of a book, a film, and a web site to illustrate “A year in the life” of the tla’amin. The project will extend for a period of more than 18 months. The Studio’s crew of photographers, videographers, ethnobotanists, herbalist, writers and tla’amin guides will circumnavigate historic and traditional routes used by the tla’amin in harvesting and foraging natural resources. These expeditions will be predetermined by seasonal availability of sought-after resources.

Jewelry by Rose Lily

Bits of the Heavens from the Earth

I grew up in 'small town Canada' and bought my first pair of tiny turquoise studs for far too much money when I was 14. I completely and totally fell in love with Turquoise. That’s where it all began. Stones! Semi precious and others began to haunt me and call out to me.

Later in life I found myself living in Santa Fe, New Mexico where I was surrounded by some of the greatest jewelry in the world. Not only the indigenous Native American, but incredible contemporary artisans. My love grew… What I discovered were numerous supply centres and stores around me which  sold not only stones, but the materials and tools to make the jewelry. I was also traveling to South America where street vendors were selling lapis lazuli, coral, malachite and other. I began buying, designing and producing my own line of jewelry.

Thus the birth of "JUST BE YOU“
